The holiday destination Menorca in Spain was hit by a rare 'meteorological tsunami' on June 19, where sea water suddenly turned into a tsunami flooding the beach and submerging beach chairs and umbrellas. Fortunately, tourists managed to escape in time, with the shocking scene of the tsunami hitting the beach spreading on social media. This phenomenon caused by rapid changes in air pressure has occurred at least 5 times recently in Spain, with instances in Mallorca and Menorca. Despite its limited impact compared to earthquake tsunamis, meteorological tsunamis have occurred worldwide, with instances causing fatalities in Croatia in 1978 and Chicago in 1954.
