Today (June 18), a front is approaching the northern sea area of Taiwan, bringing scattered brief showers in the western half in the morning while the rest of the areas remain mostly cloudy with occasional sunshine. Due to afternoon heating, thunderstorms are expected in the northern central region, Yilan, Hualien, and mountain areas, with possible localized heavy rain particularly in major Taipei, northeastern areas, and mountains in the northern central region. Temperatures range from 32 to 34 degrees Celsius, higher in some areas with a chance of heat convection in the southeast and strong UV rays. Starting Wednesday (June 19), skies will be mostly cloudy to clear with hot temperatures. Thursday (June 20) will see a decrease in rainfall due to strengthening Pacific high pressure. Friday to Sunday (June 21-23) will be hot with a decrease in afternoon thunderstorm coverage.
