Urban Heat Island Effect Causing Continual High Temperatures in Northern Taiwan

Reported 9 months ago

Recently, Taiwan has been experiencing high temperatures with the Central Weather Bureau issuing heat alerts for various counties and cities. According to National Cheng Kung University architecture professor Lin Ziping, the northern region of Taiwan, particularly the Greater Taipei Basin, has difficulty dissipating heat due to the Urban Heat Island effect. Warning that the high temperatures in the northern region may persist and make each year progressively hotter, Lin suggests that each year might be the 'coolest summer of the remaining years'. Lin attributed the heat accumulation to factors like topography and human development, highlighting the impact on outdoor comfort and energy usage to combat indoor heat, advocating for coordinated urban development and a comprehensive approach by the government to mitigate the heat issue.
