The U.S. Department of Commerce's office managing $39 billion in manufacturing subsidies for chipmakers has laid off about one-third of its staff, following a review of projects under the 2022 U.S. CHIPS Act. Approximately 40 employees were terminated abruptly, with additional departures due to a deferred resignation program. The chief investment officer also resigned amidst the changes.
