The U.S. government announced plans to pay Moderna $176 million to accelerate the development of an mRNA pandemic influenza vaccine for bird flu, as concerns rise about cases in dairy cows. Moderna, known for its COVID-19 vaccine, is already working on a bird flu vaccine using mRNA technology. The funding includes support for late-stage trials and the flexibility to target other influenza strains if needed. The award is part of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority program.
