Amid continuing tensions in the Taiwan Strait, former Defense Minister Yang Nien-hsu shared insights on the US Indo-Pacific Commander's contingency plan named 'Hellscape,' which involves deploying a large number of drones and ships to disrupt Chinese PLA operations in the event of an attack on Taiwan, allowing time for the US and allies to mobilize. Yang questioned the effectiveness of the plan due to uncertainties surrounding the endurance and control of unmanned aerial vehicles and ships, and emphasized the challenges Taiwan would face in a prolonged conflict scenario. He also highlighted the importance of avoiding war, citing the difficulty in ending a conflict once initiated and suggesting that the response strategies ultimately depend on the policies of the DPP government.
