US, Japan, and South Korea Conduct Large-Scale Joint Military Exercise, North Korea Condemns as 'Asian Version of NATO'

Yahoo News reported on June 30, 2024, that South Korea, Japan, and the United States launched a large-scale joint military exercise named 'Freedom Edge' on June 27, prompting North Korea to criticize the exercise and label the relationship between the three countries as the 'Asian version of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)'. The exercise involves the US nuclear-powered submarine USS Theodore Roosevelt, Japan's destroyer JS Atago, and South Korea's KF-16 fighter jets, focusing on ballistic missile, air defense, anti-submarine operations, and cyber defense training. North Korea's Central News Agency (KCNA) stated that Pyongyang will not overlook the strengthening of military group led by the US and its allies and will respond actively and overwhelmingly to protect regional peace.
