The US Department of Defense has once again removed a floating dock used to transport relief supplies along the Gaza Strip coast due to weather concerns and it may not be reinstalled. The dock, which cost $230 million to build, has been dismantled several times since its activation on May 17, with criticism from US lawmakers. While trucks carrying relief supplies have used the dock to reach land, ongoing attacks on convoys delivering aid to Gaza have hindered the distribution of essential goods, leaving warehouses near capacity and much-needed food and medicine undelivered to Palestinians. The UN has not utilized the dock to deliver supplies to Gaza since June 9 due to security concerns, and suspended its involvement in the dock project. Despite plans to reinstall the dock in its original location once conditions improve, officials cited by the Associated Press suggest that it may not be reinstalled after this removal.
