On June 28, 2024, a US RC-135W electronic reconnaissance aircraft was suspected of crossing the airspace above southern Taiwan and entering the southwest airspace to fly over the Bashi Channel, as reported by aviation enthusiasts tracking the flight through online platforms. Military experts suggest that it is not impossible for the aircraft to fly over Taiwan. The Taiwan Ministry of National Defense declined to comment on civilian observations of military aircraft activities, reassuring the public that they are closely monitoring all military movements around Taiwan. Former Air Force Deputy Commander Zhang Yanting mentioned that the US aircraft may have used electronic jamming functions during the flight, possibly to confuse flight paths as it entered the southwest airspace. However, he noted that this tactic could easily expose the aircraft, making it a less likely scenario. The aircraft's actions are seen as a gesture to assist Taiwan rather than an aggressive move similar to China's military actions towards Taiwan.
