The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has removed Erica Williams from her position as head of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), as announced in an email to staff. Williams, who has led the PCAOB since 2022, will depart on July 22 following a request for her resignation by SEC Chairman Paul Atkins. Her removal was anticipated after Republicans gained control of the SEC, and during her tenure, the PCAOB implemented significant rule changes and increased penalties for auditor misconduct.
