The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is requesting records from Tesla as part of its investigation into power steering loss reports in Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The investigation, covering around 334,000 vehicles from the 2023 model year, was upgraded by the agency in February after receiving 115 reports of steering control loss. NHTSA is particularly interested in Tesla's process for identifying and addressing potential defects in the steering components, as well as any changes made or planned by the company. Tesla has not yet commented on the request, and the investigation follows previous reports of premature failures in suspension and steering parts dating back to 2016.
