US Small-Business Optimism Reaches 2024 High

Reported about 1 year ago

US small-business optimism has increased for a third consecutive month in June, reaching the highest level of this year. Despite remaining pessimistic about business conditions, firms are less downbeat about the economy's prospects, with the share of companies expecting the economy to worsen being the smallest in three years. While challenges like high prices, interest rates, and labor costs persist, four out of the ten components of the sentiment index improved in June, particularly in inventory management and price hikes in construction and retail sectors. The survey also indicates a decrease in the proportion of business owners citing inflation as their top concern, along with a dip in the share of firms reporting unfilled job openings.
