Reported about 1 year ago

On June 10, 2024, the third Nuclear Consultation Group (NCG) meeting between the United States and South Korea discussed crisis management procedures for emergencies, nuclear and conventional deterrence strategies, and agreed to conduct the first practical drill for a nuclear war scenario during the annual 'Ulchi Freedom Guardian' joint exercise in August. The meeting, held in Seoul, was led by the South Korean Ministry of National Defense's Director of Defense Policy Zhao Changlai and the Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy of the US Department of Defense Nalan. They discussed strategic planning and usage guidelines for US-South Korea nuclear weapons, as well as joint responses to a potential North Korean nuclear attack. In response to North Korea's resumption of sending propaganda leaflets by balloons, South Korea plans to take concrete measures to counter provocations.
