Vermont has agreed to pay $175,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by Gregory Bombard, who was charged with disorderly conduct for showing the middle finger to a state trooper in 2018. The lawsuit, filed by the ACLU of Vermont, claimed Bombard's First Amendment rights were violated during the incident, which involved an unnecessary traffic stop and retaliatory arrest. The settlement includes $100,000 for Bombard and $75,000 for legal fees, with Vermont not admitting any wrongdoing.
