A 35-year-old Vietnamese man surnamed Lai attempted to bribe police officers with NT$2,000 when he was stopped for drunk driving in LuZhu District, Taoyuan City in August (2023). Despite his plea, the police refused the bribe and conducted a breathalyzer test, which showed an alcohol concentration of 0.82 milligrams. In addition to the initial charge of endangering public safety due to drunk driving, Lai now faces charges under anti-corruption laws for attempting to bribe police officers, as prosecuted by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office. The court has been asked to confiscate the NT$2,000.
