Vietnam National University in Hanoi requires specific new students to meet height criteria, with women needing to be over 158cm and men over 165cm tall to enroll in certain programs. Initially, 4 programs set height requirements but later modified after criticism, maintaining the requirement for only one department. The university justifies the height requirement as important for developing future leaders and excellent managers, although research shows a weak and not clear correlation between height and confidence, suggesting it may amount to discrimination. The average heights for Vietnamese women and men are 156cm and 168cm respectively.
