Vulcan Materials rejects Mexico's 'illegal expropriation' of its investments

Reported 4 months ago

Vulcan Materials, a U.S. construction company, has rejected what it calls the 'illegal expropriation' of its investments in Mexico, remaining open to a negotiated solution with the Mexican government. The company has been in conflict with Mexico's government since officials ordered a halt to quarrying at Vulcan's mining unit in 2022 due to alleged environmental damages. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stated that the site was closed, not expropriated, and would remain shut until his term ends in October. Vulcan described the suspension as 'authoritarian' and stated that the government's actions were to force them to give up their investments, despite a previous offer to buy the land at an undervalued price.
