China's former defense ministers, Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu, were both expelled from the Chinese Communist Party, raising concerns across all sectors. Yabuta Akio, former Taiwan bureau chief of Japan's Sankei Shimbun with extensive China coverage experience, pointed out that Wei Fenghe, known as one of the most famous 'Xi Jinping's Army,' being purged indicates that the power struggle within the military has intensified. Akio added that the morale of the PLA will inevitably suffer serious blows. The CPC Central Political Bureau meeting resolved to expel Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu from the party, stopping their qualifications as representatives in the 20th Congress. Both were previously discharged from the Central Military Commission, stripped of their military ranks, and now face accusations of corruption and bribery.
