Xu Qiaoxin: Green Party Accused of Reporting Personal Data of Green Birds Members at Government Meeting

Reported about 1 year ago

On June 12, 2024, DPP's Policy Executive Director Wang Yichuan claimed that mobile signal positioning can analyze personal data and political tendencies of 'Green Bird Action' and 'Sunflower Movement' members, sparking public scrutiny over surveillance. KMT legislator Xu Qiaoxin received a tip-off alleging that on May 27, DPP's New Media Center Director Jan Heshun presented a report at the 'Government Party Supervisor Meeting' on cross-comparing reports by 'Sifang Telecom,' a subsidiary of Chunghwa Telecom, raising questions about the close relationship between Sifang Telecom and DPP. Xu questioned how she would know as it was an internal DPP meeting, with DPP Secretary-General Lin Youchang rebutting her claims and describing them as bizarre and alarming. Sifang Telecom clarified that their services involve analyzing public online information. The Legislative Yuan Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee invited relevant agencies, including the National Security Bureau, for a report on 'how the state uses private communication facilities to collect national security information.'
