The New York Yankees have placed infielder Jon Berti on the 10-day Injured List due to a left calf strain following their dominant 8-0 win over the San Diego Padres. Berti collapsed in pain after hitting a grounder in the ninth inning of the game. In response, the Yankees called up infielder Kevin Smith to the active roster from Triple-A, while also transferring DJ LeMahieu to the 60-day IL as a bookkeeping move. LeMahieu is expected to return when the Yankees face the Angels in their upcoming series.
