Zimbabwe has approved the licensing of Elon Musk's Starlink internet service, allowing SpaceX's satellite unit to operate in the country. President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced that this decision will lead to the deployment of high-speed, low-cost internet infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, through Starlink's exclusive local partner, IMC Communications. The approval comes as only 34.8% of Zimbabwe's population currently has internet access, and the country's internet service is mainly controlled by three major mobile network operators. This move follows a crackdown on unregistered users smuggling Starlink kits from neighboring countries and comes as Starlink expands its presence in various African nations.
