Apple Inc. collaborated secretly with Chinese automaker BYD to develop long-range electric vehicle batteries as part of its discontinued car project. The partnership, which began around 2017, focused on creating safer lithium iron phosphate battery systems. Although Apple does not own the technology behind BYD's Blade batteries, insights from this collaboration informed BYD's current car lineup, helping it become a major player in the EV market. Despite the eventual scrapping of the car project, the collaboration contributed to Apple's advancements in battery technology and other product developments.
