The main shipping channel leading into Baltimore's port has reopened to its original depth and width after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, which blocked maritime traffic. The completion of the cleanup effort, which involved removing 50,000 tons of steel and concrete from the Patapsco River, allows normal maritime traffic to resume. The bridge collapsed after a container ship hit one of its supporting columns, leading to six deaths and impacting the Port of Baltimore's operations, one of the busiest ports in the US.
