On June 28, 2024, China's Chang'e 6 successfully completed the world's first lunar far-side sample collection mission, with the mission's chief designer explaining the importance lies in the different soil textures between the near and far sides, as well as the understanding it offers on the early geological evolution of the solar system and Earth. By landing in the largest, deepest, and oldest impact basin on the Moon's far side, the mission aims to provide valuable data on the Moon's internal composition and evolution history.
