According to S&P Global Ratings, the long-standing boom in China's dairy industry is ending, with revenues at the top three dairy producers dropping by up to 13% in early 2024. Factors such as a declining population and economic slowdown are predicted to limit sales growth to 2%-3% annually over the next two decades. The industry is also facing overcapacity issues, while the CEO of China Mengniu Dairy Co. highlighted the sector's most serious challenge since the 2008 contamination scandal. Although conditions may improve in the long term, immediate prospects remain bleak.
