On June 10, 2024, at 1:18 a.m., the Wu Xuantan in Tainan, known for organizing a 'marriage' between Guan Gong and Mazu, faced conflict at the Beichenmen Tianhou Temple in Luk Erlun, prior its elaborate ceremony announcement. The clash erupted between a woman in yellow attire claiming to be from the temple and the organizers, resulting in heated arguments and physical altercations. The temple's firm stance and subsequent closure due to online backlash led to tensions with the temple management and followers, ultimately causing their Facebook page to be shut down. The Tianhou Temple later condemned the incident, emphasizing the purity of Mazu's beliefs and rebuking the misleading promotion of the controversial 'marriage' event.
