Delayed Approval of Beiheng National Scenic Area Plan in Taoyuan: Response from Tourism Bureau

Reported about 1 year ago

Taoyuan City Government has been criticized for the slow progress in establishing the Beiheng National Scenic Area plan, which was proposed by former Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang and is now being jointly promoted by the new government of Mayor Chang San-cheng with New Taipei City and Yilan. The plan was put on hold last year due to the Indigenous Peoples Commission's requirement for consent from half of the indigenous tribes. Taoyuan Tourism Bureau is preparing to submit the plan for evaluation to the Tourism Bureau, aiming for approval from the Executive Yuan to proceed. However, more than half of the tribes have yet to organize meetings, and there are various limitations to overcome. The plan covers Taoyuan, New Taipei, and Yilan, totaling over 46,000 hectares along the 129.7 km Beiheng Highway, featuring diverse landscapes and rich indigenous culture.
