Dissatisfied with KMT establishing Mirror TV investigation group, Green Party lawmakers all leave in protest and criticize the meeting as invalid

Reported 12 months ago

In a joint meeting of the Legislative Yuan's Transportation, Judiciary, and Legal Affairs committees on July 2, 2024, discussions were held on establishing the 'Mirror TV Investigation Special Task Force' and its operational details. The meeting marked the initiation of the parliamentary reform legislation. During the meeting, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmakers protested and left en masse, holding up placards stating 'Illegal Meeting, Meeting Invalid' and 'Blue and White Expanding Power, Joint Meetings Should be Transferred by the Legislative Yuan', questioning the legitimacy of the session. The establishment of the investigation group was contested as it was not related to reviewing bills or budgets that require approval by the Legislative Yuan before committee hearings. Eventually, DPP lawmakers Lin Chun-hsien, Chen Su-yueh, Ho Hsin-chun, and Hsu Chih-chieh continuously questioned the legitimacy of the meeting before walking out in protest.
