Facing Accusations of Public Smoking in the Legislative Yuan, Lui Tsai-wei: Ko Chien-ming Should Apologize Proactively

On June 13, 2024, at 3:13 am, DPP caucus chief executive Ko Chien-ming was suspected of smoking openly in front of the camera during a cross-party negotiation meeting. Ko had previously been reported for smoking in the corridors of the Legislative Yuan and behind the chambers, currently under investigation by the Taipei City Health Bureau. During the negotiation process, he was seen lighting and smoking in front of the live camera. KMT deputy director of the Cultural and Communications Affairs Committee, Lui Tsai-wei, made a complaint to the Taipei City Health Bureau, accusing Ko of violating the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. Lui stated that Ko Chien-ming is a repeat offender and habitual offender, providing specific videos and photos to report smoking indoors at the Legislative Yuan, demanding Ko to proactively apologize for not complying with the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act.
