On July 6, 2024, at 7:46 am, the Coast Guard in Yunlin, Taiwan, discovered an illegal tobacco factory operating under the guise of a fertilizer company in waterways in Chiayi. The group was importing low-quality tobacco scraps, which were moldy and contained insect remains, to produce counterfeit cigarettes resembling popular brands. They packaged these fake cigarettes similarly to well-known brands, selling them at lower prices as knockoff versions.
