Former Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan, currently the Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, was granted bail by the Taoyuan District Court after being implicated in a corruption scandal involving receiving bribes related to a land development project and subsequently returning the money. Despite denying the charges, the court found insufficient evidence to prove the money was obtained illegally, leading to his release on bail while four co-defendants remained in custody. The court also imposed restrictions on his activities and interactions in connection with the case.
