A freighter named Michipicoten collided with an object underwater in Lake Superior, southwest of Isle Royale, Michigan, causing it to take on water. The ship was carrying taconite and had 22 people onboard. Water pumps were utilized to reduce the water level, and half of the crew was evacuated for safety. The cause of the collision is under investigation. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area.
