During the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944, General Montgomery simplified the complex operation by writing his entire battle plan on a single sheet of paper, emphasizing the importance of simplicity. This historic land, air, and sea operation involved nearly 160,000 Allied troops and marked the beginning of the Allied spearhead into German-occupied Europe known as Operation Overlord. Montgomery's handwritten plans, released in 2016 by the Imperial War Museums, included a note stating 'The key note of everything to be SIMPLICITY' and a speech wishing luck to the troops before the assault began.
