Alphabet Inc.’s Google has joined forces with a Nevada utility and a geothermal energy startup to power its data centers using geothermal energy. The collaboration involves Fervo Energy developing a 115-megawatt geothermal power plant for NV Energy Inc., a subsidiary of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Energy. This electricity will then be sold to Google, who aims to run on carbon-free energy by 2030. Geothermal energy is highlighted for its ability to operate constantly without carbon emissions, addressing the growing electricity consumption of data centers in the tech industry.
