Japan's Tokaido Shinkansen Stalled Due to Power Outage, Carriages Without Air Conditioning Leads to Passenger Discomfort in Tunnel

According to JR Tokaido's official website, a power outage occurred between Shizuoka Station and Kakegawa Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen in Japan on July 6. Trains on both the up and down lines were temporarily suspended due to vehicle inspections, leaving passengers stuck in tunnels with no air conditioning causing complaints of heat discomfort. JR is conducting inspections and plans to resume operations around 3 p.m. NHK reported that the 'Hope Train No. 12' was stranded in a tunnel due to power failure, with passengers experiencing darkness and heat inside the carriage. Passenger accounts described the situation inside as uncomfortable due to the lack of air conditioning. Temporary facilities were set up as passengers awaited resumption of services.
