Japan to Issue New Banknotes, South Korea Unhappy with Portrait of “Him” on the New Ten Thousand Yen Note

However, South Korea is displeased with Shibusawa being depicted on the new banknote, as he is considered the main culprit behind the economic invasion of Korea. The new banknotes will also feature Tane and Umetaro Tsuda, and Kitasato Shibasaburo. South Korean media criticizes the choice of Shibusawa on the new banknote, citing his historical actions in Korea. The introduction of Shibusawa on the new ten thousand yen note has sparked controversy and criticism in South Korea.
