On the morning of June 12, 2024, the Criminal Police Brigade of the Kaohsiung City Government received intelligence about the purchase of modified gun components and tools. It was discovered that the suspect Chen used his grocery store in the countryside as a location to receive gun components and evade the police. Upon investigation, a large plantation of Mexican Salvia plants was found in a hidden room on the second floor of the store. Mexican Salvia is a newly classified third-level drug, known for its hallucinogenic effects when its leaves are smoked. This case marks the first in Taiwan with a significant seizure of live Mexican Salvia plants. In addition to the drug-related charges, Chen was also found with illegal firearm components and was arrested by the authorities for further investigation and prosecution, showcasing the Kaohsiung police department's continuous efforts to combat drug crimes and ensure public safety.
