Kia Recalls 463,000 Telluride SUVs Due to Fire Hazard in Front Seats

Reported 11 months ago

On June 9, 2024, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall for Korean automaker Kia's 463,000 Telluride SUVs due to a fire risk in the front seats. The recall affects Telluride models from 2020 to 2024, known for being a popular and spacious three-row SUV designed to attract American consumers. Kia warns owners to park the SUV outdoors away from buildings as the front seat may overheat and catch fire due to a misaligned seat control switch that can cause the small electric motor to overheat. Kia will begin sending recall notifications to owners starting from the end of July for free repairs to install reinforcements and improved switches to prevent seat fires, following reports of incidents like smoke and fires in the seats since 2022.
