In the autobiography 'My Early Life', Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty, disclosed his habit of needing to drink milk before meals due to late weaning, with his milkmaid Wang carefully catering to his desire. This unusual habit led to embarrassment among palace maids who had to look away as Puyi eagerly drank milk before meals. The Empress Dowager eventually expelled Wang to maintain royal dignity, but Puyi persisted in his affection for milk into adulthood, sourcing it from various places as a daily 'appetizer'. His attachment to milk was seen as stemming from a lack of maternal love as a child, making his lifelong yearning for it a poignant reflection of his past.
