Mortgage rates increased last week, with the average 30-year fixed rate reaching 6.84%, up from 6.78% the previous week. The 15-year mortgage rate also rose to 6.02%. Despite the rise in rates and a slower housing market, mortgage application volumes showed a slight improvement, with home purchase applications up 2% compared to last year. National economist Lawrence Yun indicated that the decline in home sales might be stabilizing due to increased inventory and economic growth.
