New York City plans to shut down a migrant processing center and shelter located in the former Roosevelt Hotel, following a significant decrease in new arrivals to less than 10% of peak levels during the migrant crisis. Mayor Eric Adams highlighted that this decision reflects progress in managing the influx, with weekly arrivals dropping to 350 from around 4,000. This shelter, operational since 2023, has accommodated over 173,000 migrants, but the city is now seeing fewer than 45,000 in care, down from 69,000 in early 2024, as part of a broader trend influenced by changing immigration policies.
