In Taipei, a man jaywalked to buy lunch, refused to accept a ticket from police, and instead verbally assaulted them before attempting to leave and being arrested on the spot. Nearby businesses commented on many pedestrians jaywalking in the area, causing potential accidents due to short crosswalks. Despite pleading that stress from family responsibilities led to his outburst, the man was charged with obstructing justice after jaywalking to save time, endangering himself and others, potentially buying several days' worth of lunch with the fines instead.
