Renowned contemporary artist Jin-hua Shi, known for his conceptual and performance art, passed away at the age of 60 on June 29, leaving Taiwan and Asia in sorrow. Starting his creative journey at 17 while battling diabetes, Shi's masterpiece 'Life of Strokes #1' was created by randomly painting lines on paper until the ink ran out. Despite his unique approach, Shi gained recognition in Asia and the US and held numerous exhibitions across Taiwan. His sudden demise in a motorcycle accident on June 28 while returning home from his Kaohsiung studio shocked the art community, with his art being described as a reflection of life's actions and his body as the interface between spirit and world. Plans for a commemorative exhibition in his honor are being made by his gallery Mind Set Art Center, expressing gratitude for Shi's four-decade-long artistic contributions that prompted reflections on existence and life.
