South Africa's Ruling ANC Falls Below Majority in Parliament for the First Time, Forms Unity Government Giving Up Nearly 40% of Ministries

Reported 12 months ago

Yahoo News reported that following the national election at the end of May, South Africa announced the post-election government list on June 30, revealing that the ruling African National Congress (ANC) failed to secure a majority in parliament for the first time in 30 years, resulting in giving up 12 out of 32 ministries to opposition parties. President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that the formation of the current national unity government (GNU) is unprecedented in South Africa's democratic history, with other political parties like the Democratic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party, Patriotic Alliance, and Freedom-Front Plus gaining ministries in the new government. The focus of the new government is on promoting rapid, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth and addressing poverty, inequality, and unemployment to create a more just society.
