During maintenance, the Yeongdeok Nuclear Power Plant in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, experienced a 2.3-ton coolant water leak from the fuel storage tank into the sea. Authorities are investigating the exact amount and cause of the leak and collecting seawater samples to evaluate the potential environmental impact. The plant operator, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, discovered the decreasing water level in the storage tank during an inspection and promptly took measures to stop the leak, then reported the incident to the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission and collaborated with experts to investigate the cause of the leak.
