Southwest Airlines has appointed aviation veteran Rakesh Gangwal as the independent chair of its board following a recent resolution of its dispute with activist investor Elliott Management. Gangwal, co-founder of India's Indigo Airlines and former senior executive at United Airlines and U.S. Airways, had previously invested over $100 million in Southwest shares. The move comes as part of a broader agreement that included new board nominations and expedited leadership changes.
