The shortage of Taipei City bus drivers has reached a critical level with 1447 vacancies while adding 734 shifts and 242 routes. Councilor Hsu Shu-hua urges the city government to address the issue promptly and notes that other counties have implemented subsidy raises to retain drivers. Despite the average salary of around 70,000 NTD for Taipei bus drivers being higher than in other areas, the problem persists, leading to concerns about service quality and passenger safety. Efforts to attract more drivers through pay incentives like those in other areas have not kept pace, causing a significant workforce gap in the city.
