Taipei District Chief Faces Impeachment for Extramarital Affair Resulting in Child, Wife Seeks Compensation

Reported about 1 year ago

A district chief surnamed Wang in Taipei has been under scrutiny for having an extramarital affair, cohabitating, and having a child with another woman, leading to an impeachment motion by residents and a 100,000 NTD compensation claim from Wang's wife. The Taipei court ruled in favor of the wife, ordering Wang and his mistress, who operates a beauty studio, to jointly compensate 200,000 NTD for violating spousal rights. The case is open for appeal. The mistress posted intimate photos with Wang, shared ultrasound images of the fetus, and successfully gave birth to a son. Wang's wife, a former hospital clerk, claimed to have endured immense emotional pain upon discovering the affair, even developing thyroiditis. Wang argued that his wife overstated their relationship and the compensation sought, stating that they have filed for divorce, and he is currently separated from his wife. The mistress, on unpaid leave, expressed inability to pay the compensation. The court deemed Wang and the mistress guilty of harming spousal rights, hence the compensation order, while also highlighting ongoing financial pressures faced by Wang from his in-laws.
