Taipei Metro Suspect with Knife Injures People, Prosecutors Seek Harsh Sentence

In Taipei, a man surnamed Hong randomly attacked passengers with a knife in a metro car on May 21st, causing injuries to a high school student surnamed Lu and another man surnamed Xu. Prosecutors found that Hong was dissatisfied with society and intentionally carried out the attack to gain attention, especially as it coincided with the 10th anniversary of another murder case. They charged him with attempted murder and public intimidation, as he had planned the attack meticulously and caused mass panic. The court ordered him to be detained considering the severity of his crimes and the risk of escape.
