Reported 12 months ago

On the evening of July 2nd, a fishing boat from Penghu, the 'Da Jin Man 88', was operating in waters off Kinmen when it was forcibly boarded and taken to the Weitou Naval Base in Fujian by two Chinese coast guard boats. Taiwan's Coast Guard quickly dispatched 3 ships for assistance but were hindered by 4 Chinese coast guard boats. Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration Vice-Chief Hsieh Ching-chin confirmed the incident location was within mainland waters and urged China not to politicize the matter, calling for a prompt explanation and the proper release of the boat and crew. China recently escalated enforcement actions against foreign fishing vessels during the fishing moratorium, with incidents also reported near the Diaoyu Islands. Taiwan's Coast Guard reminds vessels in the area to remain vigilant and reaffirms its commitment to law enforcement in Taiwan's jurisdictional waters.
